A lakefront development at Rangadhamuni Cheruvu, Kukatpally, also known as IDL lake, has been proposed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).
According to reports, the lake will be beautified, walkways will be built, landscaping will be done, and seating arrangements will be made.
Food courts will also be established. An HMDA official explained that the lake would become a recreational place for families and increase foot traffic. Bathukamma festival is celebrated at an artificial pond near the IDL lake, which is famous among locals.
GHMC will also undertake the task of cleaning water hyacinth, treatment of waste materials, constructing floating wetlands and planting trees, diverting sewerage, strengthening the bund, and providing dustbins under its supervision.
A GHMC official said that aerators could be installed if necessary to increase oxygen levels in the lake, as well as hoardings and signage to discourage littering. Once the beautification work is completed, security arrangements will be in place as well.

City lakes lack flood management work
Even though the flow of water in the city lakes has increased and most have breached their Full Tank Level (FTL) because flood management work that began a few years ago is yet to be completed.
According to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), the city has 185 lakes. Authorities invited bids for Rs 94.17 crore in flood management work at 63 lakes in 2019. While work has begun in 48 lakes, others are still in the tendering process.

Hussain Sagar Lake’s gates were recently opened by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB). Cracks in the lake boundary walls reported in the 2020 floods are still being repaired, according to sources. This project was supposed to begin in November 2021, but it was only started in May of this year.
