In a rare and surprising move, a man in India arranged his own wife’s marriage to her lover, fearing for his safety after witnessing recent cases where husbands were murdered by their wives.
According to Indian media reports, the decision was influenced by past incidents where women, along with their lovers, murdered their husbands and dismembered their bodies. In another case, a wife hired contract killers to eliminate her spouse.
Concerned about his own safety, Bablu, a resident of Katar Jot village in Sant Kabir Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh, decided to let his wife, Radhika, marry her lover, Vikas, instead of confronting or opposing their relationship.
Bablu married Radhika in 2017, and the couple has two children. He worked as a laborer in another state, but recently learned that his wife had been in a relationship with Vikas, a man from their village, for nearly one and a half years.
Without informing Radhika, Bablu returned to the village and began verifying the claims. Upon confirming the affair, he chose not to argue or fight but instead sought advice from village elders. Together, they decided that Radhika should marry the man she loved.
Following traditional Hindu rituals, Bablu arranged Radhika’s marriage to Vikas at a local temple. He even appeared as a witness in court to legally register their union. What’s more, Bablu decided to keep their two children with him, stating that he would raise them alone.
When asked why he took such an extraordinary step, Bablu explained, “I made this decision to protect myself from potential harm. Recently, we have seen cases where husbands were killed by their wives. After witnessing what happened in Meerut, I decided that arranging their marriage was the best way for both of us to live peacefully.”
