As per reports, at least 30 people suffered eye injuries by fireworks in the city and were taken to the state-run Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital on Monday night for treatment.
The hospital authorities admitted 15 people for treatment out of the total 30 cases, while the rest were allowed to go home after primary treatment. One of the patients suffered serious eye injuries while bursting firecrackers on Deepavali.
According to Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital officials, the number of cases will increase until Tuesday afternoon as more patients from surrounding areas are directed to the hospital for treatment. The hospital administration has assembled a special team of senior doctors to handle cases involving injuries sustained while bursting firecrackers.
Every year, a large number of cases are recorded at the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital during Deepavali. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the numbers were lower in 2020 and 2021. However, things appear to have returned to pre-COVID-19 levels in Hyderabad.
Similarly, around ten cases of fire-related burns were received at the state-run Osmania General Hospital and Gandhi Hospitals on Monday night. The patients are currently being treated.
Meanwhile, police in Andhra Pradesh said a man was killed in an explosion at his home in Rajamahendravaram on Monday.
