Hyderabad and Bengaluru See Surge in Dengue Cases

MediBuddy, a digital healthcare platform, has reported a notable increase in requests for dengue tests, particularly in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, over the past few weeks. This trend is raising alarms about the spread of the mosquito-borne disease during the monsoon season.

According to MediBuddy’s recent data analysis, an overwhelming 71% of all dengue test requests across major Indian cities came from Bengaluru, while Hyderabad accounted for 14%. Other cities such as Kolkata, Mumbai, Noida, Thane, Nagpur, and Delhi collectively made up between 4% and 2% of the total requests.

This spike in dengue test requests coincides with the monsoon season, a period known for increased mosquito breeding, highlighting the urgent need for heightened vigilance and preventive measures among the public. The concentration of test requests in Bengaluru and Hyderabad underscores the elevated risk and awareness of dengue in these urban areas.

Dr. Gowri Kulkarni, Head of Medical Operations at MediBuddy, emphasized the seriousness of the situation: “The sharp rise in dengue test requests, especially in urban centers like Hyderabad, clearly indicates a growing health concern. Residents in these areas must remain extra vigilant, and local health authorities should intensify mosquito control efforts and public awareness campaigns.”

The data also revealed significant variations in test request patterns across different cities. Hyderabad, in particular, saw a substantial surge in demand for dengue tests, peaking in the fourth week of June with a 50% increase.
