Hyderabad is rapidly transforming into a global hub for life sciences manufacturing, with Genome Valley playing a central role in this growth, according to CBRE’s latest report, Global Life Sciences Atlas.
The report highlights Hyderabad as one of the most prominent life sciences destinations in the world, especially within the Asia-Pacific region. As the global life sciences sector expands, it is driving major shifts in real estate development. In 2024 alone, more than 35 million square feet of laboratory and R&D space was under construction worldwide. While the United States continues to lead in life sciences research hubs, Hyderabad is emerging alongside cities like Beijing, Tokyo, and Toronto as a key player on the global stage.
In India, the life sciences industry is led by pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies, with Hyderabad standing out as the country’s largest cluster. The city produces nearly one-third of India’s pharmaceutical output, accounts for one-fifth of the nation’s exports in the sector, and manufactures a third of the world’s vaccines. Office leasing by life sciences firms in India surged by 56% year-on-year, reaching 5.8 million square feet, demonstrating increased demand and confidence in Hyderabad’s infrastructure and ecosystem.

Genome Valley, located on the city’s outskirts, is home to over 200 companies from 18 countries. Impressively, six of the world’s top ten R&D firms have operations in this biotech park. Hyderabad’s success is attributed to strong government support, well-developed infrastructure, a robust talent pool, and a thriving ecosystem that supports collaboration and innovation in the life sciences field.
CBRE Chairman and CEO Anshuman Magazine stated that Hyderabad’s growth reflects the strength of India’s life sciences sector and called Genome Valley a powerful example of innovation and strategic planning. Ada Choi, Head of Research for the Asia-Pacific region at CBRE, noted that the life sciences industry is now driving significant real estate development globally, with the Asia-Pacific region leading the way in this transformation.
As Hyderabad continues to attract global companies and investment, the city is solidifying its position as a premier destination for pharmaceutical manufacturing, biotech innovation, and vaccine production on the international map.
