Hyderabad Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has announced the expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail network to other locations in the capital region. The Chief Minister declared during the launch of Haritha Haram Phase-9 at Tumuluru village in Ranga Reddy that the metro rail would soon be extended to the Shamshabad airport and further to Kandukur in the Maheshwaram constituency.
P Sabitha Indra Reddy, the Education Minister, proposed that the metro rail be extended to Kandukur, and the Chief Minister answered affirmatively, deeming it a legitimate request that merits prompt consideration. He was disappointed that the previous regime had excluded the Shamshabad airport from the earliest phases of the metro rail, describing it as a huge miscalculation that needed to be corrected. Tenders have been issued for the missing link to the airport, which is expected to cost Rs. 6,000 crore. Furthermore, the Chief Minister promised to expand the metro line to the Maheshwaram constituency.
Chandrashekar Rao emphasised the need of metro rail connectivity along the LB Nagar-BHEL line and stated that it will be constructed shortly and would span the entire route. He also approved the establishment of a medical college in the Maheshwaram constituency, with the Education Minister deciding on its location. In addition, he authorised the construction of a power substation in Tumulur gramme panchayat and awarded Rs. 15 lakh to each gramme panchayat and Rs. 25 lakh to each municipality in the assembly constituency.
