Following a letter from the new Telangana government, Formula E, the electric racing series, has expressed additional reservations over its upcoming event in Hyderabad on February 10.
The first Formula E race was held in Hyderabad in February of the previous year, with former IT Minister KT Rama Rao playing a key role in bringing the event to the city.
However, with a new government in place following the recent state elections, the future of Formula E is questionable. The Congress administration’s letter to Formula E has caused worries, as the series is seeking urgent clarification on contractual commitments under the agreement and how government changes may effect the Hyderabad race.
Officials from Formula E had previously spoken with representatives of the new government, but the latest communication has added to the difficulties. Formula E, the Telangana government, and Greenko initially agreed on a four-year contract. Nonetheless, Greenko withdrew from the event after the maiden edition.

Given the nature of the letter received from the new Telangana government, Formula E voiced concern that the race would not go forward as planned. With the race only a few weeks away and in its final phases of planning, Formula E, its partners, and suppliers have already made considerable commercial commitments in the event. The inaugural Hyderabad E-Prix, which took place in February of the previous year, had a favorable economic impact on the region, bringing in about $84 million USD.
The series highlights that the cost of organizing a Formula E race varies, and parties have invested heavily in event preparation. The forthcoming race in Hyderabad is critical for the championship, and Formula E is working to find a solution to guarantee the race runs smoothly. The series is held in several prominent cities throughout the world, and the concerns underscore the difficulties that come with staging international sporting events.
