A group of four individuals, including habitual offenders from Gulbarga, were arrested by the Jeedimetla police for stealing a road roller worth lakhs of rupees from Balanagar. The gang planned to dismantle the heavy machinery and sell it for scrap in Maharashtra.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Afroz Ahmed (24), Mohammed Ibrahim (31), Shaik Anwar (35), and Balla Ram Satyanarayana (47). Another member of the gang, Syed Mustafa, is currently absconding.
According to the police, the gang, known for targeting large vehicles for their high resale value, had previously stolen a road roller from Dulapally and Petbasheerabad. They sold the stolen machinery in Jalna, Maharashtra.
On Monday night, Afroz, Mustafa, and Shaik Anwar surveyed the Balanagar Industrial Park for suitable targets. They spotted a road roller parked near a timber depot and decided to steal it. The gang contacted Satyanarayana, a crane supplier, and hired two cranes to lift the heavy road roller. They then loaded it onto a DCM vehicle belonging to Anwar.
However, the driver of the stolen road roller quickly realized his vehicle was missing and reported the incident to the police. The Jeedimetla police, using footage from 64 surveillance cameras, tracked the gang’s escape route and apprehended them. The arrested individuals are currently in police custody and are being investigated for their involvement in other similar crimes.
