Hyderabad Launches India’s First Agricultural Data Exchange (ADeX)

In Hyderabad, India’s first Agricultural Data Exchange (ADeX) was officially opened. The Government of Telangana, the World Economic Forum, and the Indian Institute of Science collaborated to create this unique platform as a digital public infrastructure (DPI) for the agriculture sector.

ADeX’s goal is to democratize access to agricultural data, allowing both the public and private sectors to develop applications and provide services that benefit society. It functions as an open-source, open-standard, and interoperable public good, facilitating the secure interchange of data between agricultural data users (such as application developers) and data providers (such as government agencies, commercial corporations, non-governmental organizations, and universities).

K. T. Rama Rao, Telangana’s Minister for Information Technology and Industries, stated that ADeX and the Agriculture Data Management Framework (ADMF) provide a framework for responsible and efficient agricultural data use. He stressed how these initiatives position Telangana as a leader in reforming food systems and boosting farmer lives via the use of innovation and technology.

ADeX was initially implemented in the Khammam area as part of the first phase, with intentions to gradually expand coverage to the entire state. During the launch ceremony, numerous agricultural technology companies demonstrated digital solutions leveraging data obtained through ADeX, such as market advisory, pest prediction advisory, and streamlined financing access.

During the launch, the Agriculture Data Management Framework (ADMF) was also released, after extensive consultations with public and industry stakeholders. The goal of this framework is to enable responsible data sharing through consent-based methods while adhering to domestic laws, global best practices, and industry standards.
