Hyderabad: Major Drug Smuggling Gang Busted

The Telangana Anti-drugs Bureau (TSNAB) has made a huge breakthrough by apprehending a six-member gang involved in drugs smuggling in Hyderabad. Due to his uncle Tejavat Chanda’s advanced age, the gang’s commander, V Veeranna, originating from Gudur in Mahabubabad, had taken over the narcotics trade from his uncle.

Veeranna had been involved in drugs smuggling since 2018, mostly supplying ganja to Niklesh, also known as Babu. To avoid police checks, the gang used ingenious ways such as concealing the ganja in customized compartments of high-end four-wheelers. Veeranna even hired drivers to assist with the transportation of the ganja and personally accompanied the trucks transporting the narcotics through toll gates.

In a news conference, the Hyderabad Police Commissioner, who also serves as the Director of the Anti-Narcotics Bureau, stated that Veeranna, the gang leader, had amassed enormous fortune from his criminal activities. With the proceeds from the drug trade, he invested in wine shops and supermarkets.

The TSNAB seized four four-wheelers and 44 kilograms of ganja worth an estimated 12 lakhs as a consequence of the operation. This arrest is a big step forward in the fight against narcotics smuggling in the region.
