Hyderabad, The city of pearls has raised India’s head up high by earning its place in the top 20 most surveilled cities in the world list. Hyderabad has been ranked 16th due to the 3 lakh surveillance cameras installed in the city for making it safer.
This news is in accordance with the yearly report published by Comparitech, a UK-based company. The organization evaluates technology and the services offered through it including VPN, anti-virus, and other such applications.
The city proudly stands in the ranking with 20 other cities of the world, with no other Indian entity. The list boats of 18 Chinese cities, with only London and Hyderabad being the non-China ones. London grabbed the 3rd spot while Hyderabad ranked 16th. The Chinese city Taiyuan topped the list while Beijing stood 5th. Taiyuan, the first ranked city had 65,255 CCTV cameras. With a population of 3,891,127 people, the security cameras to population ratio here were 119.57 CCTV cameras per 1,000 people. The city had a crime index of 51.47.
The other cities included Wuxi, Changsha, Hangzhou, Kunming, Qingdao, Xiamen, Harbin, Suzhou, Shanghai, Urumqi, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Ji’nan, Shenyang, Hefei, and Tianjin.
According to the researchers of Comparitech, they collected a lot of data, organized the stats and reports from the resources and then reached to the formulation of the report. This comprised of government citations, police websites, news, and media articles, and more such additional means to receive information regarding the number of CCTV cameras put in use by 150 major cities in the world. However, it emphasized chiefly on the public surveillance methods; cameras employed by government bodies like law enforcement departments as that would help provide the prime number of CCTVs being used.
The city with a population of more than a crore was found to be using 3 lakh CCTV cameras to surveil the in and out happenings within its perimeter. This directly referred to the fact that for every 1, 000 people, the city was armored with 29.99 CCTV cameras, which means 1 camera per 33 persons. However, despite being equipped with 3 lakh cameras, the crime index in Hyderabad stands at 43.46, according to the listing. This makes it the city with the 3rd highest crime rate among the cities in the tab.
