Hyderabad: Tight security planned for Saturday’s Hanuman Jayanti Procession

The Hanuman Jayanthi procession will be conducted in the city on Saturday under tight security arrangements. It is the second religious procession to be held in the city in a little less than a week.

Due to the communal clashes that occurred in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Gujarat during Ram Navami, the city police have come up with a tight security plan.

Starting from Gowliguda Mandir, the religious procession will travel 12 km to Tadbund Hanuman Temple. Road restrictions will be in place along the route.

A meeting was held by Hyderabad’s city police commissioner C.V. Anand to assess the security situation in the city. Participants in the meeting included police officials from Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissionerates as well as senior officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), R&B, Electricity and Fire departments.

Anand had informed other government departments about the necessity of setting up strong barricades, uninterrupted power supply, clearance of debris, and pruning tree branches along the procession route.

The Road Transport Corporation (RTC) department will be responsible for deputizing mechanics and drivers. EMS officials will be responsible for placing ambulances along the route of the procession.

Anand stressed the need for attendees to deputize senior officers to the joint command control centre on the day of the event.

The police force will be heavily involved in the tight security arrangements, and the SHOs have been instructed to maintain law and order during the procession and coordinate with other departments’ officers on the ground.

In order to ensure a peaceful Ram Navami Shobha Yatra, 7,000 police officers were deployed in the city on Sunday.

A large number of devotees participated in the procession which was held after a hiatus of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
