In a significant move to boost domestic air connectivity, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad, announced the launch of direct flight services by IndiGo to six new cities across India, with operations starting in late September 2024. The cities now connected to Hyderabad through these new routes are Agartala, Jammu, Agra, Kanpur, Ayodhya, and Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), enhancing travel options for passengers.
IndiGo’s new routes are set to position Hyderabad as a central hub for travelers looking to explore India’s cultural and heritage-rich destinations, making domestic travel more convenient. In addition to these six cities, Hyderabad will soon be connected to a seventh, further broadening travel opportunities.
New Flight Routes and Schedules:
1. Agartala (IXA) – Flights to Agartala will operate four times a week, starting from Monday, September 23, 2024. The flight will depart RGIA at 7:30 AM and arrive in Agartala at 10:20 AM.
2. Jammu (IXJ) – Beginning Tuesday, September 24, 2024, this route will be serviced three times a week. The flight will leave Hyderabad at 7:05 AM and land in Jammu by 10:10 AM.
3. Agra (AGR) – Starting from Saturday, September 28, 2024, a three-times-a-week service will connect Hyderabad to Agra. The flight is scheduled to depart RGIA at 1:55 PM and arrive at 4:05 PM.
4. Kanpur (KNU)– Flights to Kanpur will begin on Friday, September 27, 2024, and will operate four times weekly. The scheduled departure is 8:55 AM from Hyderabad, arriving in Kanpur at 11:00 AM.
5. Ayodhya (AYJ) – The Ayodhya route will also commence on Friday, September 27, 2024, with four weekly flights. It will depart from Hyderabad at 1:55 PM and reach Ayodhya at 4:05 PM.
6. Prayagraj (IXD) – Prayagraj flights will be operated three times a week from September 28, 2024. The flight will leave Hyderabad at 8:55 AM and arrive at 10:50 AM.

These new routes will provide direct access to key historical and religious destinations, as well as emerging commercial hubs in India. Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL), emphasized that these new domestic routes are part of RGIA’s ongoing commitment to improving air connectivity and providing more options for travelers. “By increasing the number of domestic routes, we are making it easier for travelers to explore India’s diverse landscapes and cultures,” said Panicker.
These direct flights will not only benefit leisure travelers but also provide convenience to business travelers, contributing to Hyderabad’s growing prominence as an aviation hub.
