Hyderabad Tomato Prices Drop Amid Crop Recovery

Hyderabad: After experiencing a price increase due to heavy rainfall hurting crops in many places, tomato prices in Hyderabad have now begun to reduce. Prices have recently plummeted from as high as Rs 200 per kg to roughly Rs 60-70 per kg. In certain cases, retail costs dropped even further to Rs 50-60 per kg.

Consumers will be relieved that tomato prices have dropped, since high prices were affecting household budgets and even causing changes in food preparation techniques. Because of the rising cost of tomatoes, several restaurants and cafes have begun to reduce their use in their meals.

The price decline is linked to a dip in sales volumes as consumers moved to other vegetables in response to the high tomato pricing. As demand fell, sellers were compelled to drop their prices, resulting in the current scenario.

Previously, the rise in tomato prices was mostly caused by crop losses in various districts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra, all of which are important tomato-producing regions with supply markets such as Hyderabad. As prices begin to level out, it is envisaged that the situation will gradually return to normal, with restaurants and consumers able to use tomatoes more freely into their culinary dishes.
