Hyderabad Traffic Police Issue Monsoon Advisory for Safe Driving

The Hyderabad traffic police have issued a comprehensive advisory to the public to ensure safe driving during the monsoon season. G Shankar Raju, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Traffic Training Institute, Begumpet, along with the AP Abids staff of State Financial Corporation, Telangana Division, emphasized the importance of road safety and accident prevention during a sensitization session.

Assistant Commissioner Raju highlighted the increased risk of road accidents during the rainy season. “Vehicles must be driven with extra caution during the rains. The likelihood of accidents is significantly higher due to damaged and water-logged roads, as well as motorists failing to take proper precautions,” he stated. He pointed out that slippery roads can prevent bikes and cars from stopping even when brakes are applied.

To ensure a smooth journey during the monsoon, the following precautions were advised:

  1. Avoid Over-speeding: Driving at high speeds is particularly dangerous during the rainy season. Water-covered roads can conceal open manholes and other hazards.
  2. Maintain Safe Distances: Keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the one in front to account for reduced brake efficiency and visibility.
  3. Check Vehicle Conditions: Ensure that wipers and lights are functioning properly, as visibility can be significantly reduced during rain.
  4. Wear Helmets: Both drivers and pillion riders on two-wheelers must wear helmets to prevent injuries in case of accidents.

“Prevention of road accidents is everyone’s responsibility,” emphasized Raju. He urged all road users to prioritize safety and adhere to traffic rules. He also noted that violations, such as driving without a license and taking wrong routes, contribute to traffic jams and accidents at major city intersections.

The Hyderabad traffic police’s proactive measures aim to mitigate the risks associated with monsoon driving and ensure the safety of all road users.
