Hyderabad’s PJR Flyover Opens: New 6-Lane Corridor Eases Gachibowli-Kondapur Traffic

In a major infrastructure boost to the city’s IT corridor, the much-awaited PJR Flyover, connecting Kondapur and Gachibowli, was officially opened to the public on Friday, June 28, 2025. The inauguration ceremony was conducted by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, along with several GHMC and State Government officials.

Named after late Congress leader P. Janardhan Reddy (popularly known as PJR), this six-lane, bi-directional flyover is now Hyderabad’s first third-level flyover, built above the two existing flyovers at the Gachibowli junction.

Flyover Details:

  • Length: 1.29 kilometers
  • Width: Six lanes (three in each direction)
  • Project Cost: Approximately ₹172 crore
  • Executing Agencies: GHMC and Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL)
  • Part of: The Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP)

The new flyover is designed to ease traffic congestion between Kondapur and Gachibowli, which is one of the busiest stretches in Hyderabad, especially during peak IT office hours. Thousands of commuters traveling between Hitech City, Madhapur, Financial District, and towards the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and Shamshabad Airport are expected to benefit from this project.

The flyover offers seamless signal-free connectivity from Kondapur towards ORR, reducing travel time by 10-15 minutes during peak hours, while decongesting the Gachibowli Crossroad junction, a known bottleneck in the IT corridor.

While the inauguration was met with much enthusiasm, some traffic experts and local residents have raised concerns regarding rumble strip placements on the flyover’s sharp curves, which they believe may pose safety risks during rainy conditions due to water retention. GHMC officials, however, have assured that all necessary safety measures are being reviewed.

Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stated that this project reflects the State Government’s commitment to improving Hyderabad’s transport infrastructure, especially in rapidly developing zones like Gachibowli and Hitech City.

GHMC officials also confirmed that more flyovers and underpasses under the SRDP Phase-II are in the pipeline to tackle Hyderabad’s growing traffic demands.
