The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) demolished a five-storey building at Ayyappa Society in Madhapur for violating construction norms and obstructing the 100-foot main road. The building, spread over 684 square yards, was deemed illegal due to multiple irregularities, including the absence of parking, fire safety measures, and the unauthorized use of the ground floor as a kitchen.
HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath, who supervised the operation, stated that residents had filed complaints against the unauthorized structure. The building, which included a cellar, ground floor, and five additional floors, was constructed in defiance of prior notices from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and a demolition order from the High Court.
“I inspected the building early this morning and observed sewage flowing onto the road, corroborating the residents’ complaints,” said Commissioner Ranganath. He emphasized that the demolition was conducted in line with HYDRAA’s stated policies and pledged to address other illegal constructions in Ayyappa Society in coordination with the GHMC.

The GHMC had issued a show-cause notice to the builder on February 14, 2024, followed by a High Court order on April 19, 2024, declaring the construction illegal and mandating its demolition. Although portions of the structure were razed on June 13, 2024, the builder resumed illegal construction, prompting HYDRAA to take decisive action.
Under police and Disaster Response Force (DRF) supervision, the demolition proceeded without incident, ensuring the safety of surrounding residents and properties. Commissioner Ranganath reaffirmed HYDRAA’s commitment to enforcing regulations and preventing unauthorized constructions in Hyderabad.
This action serves as a stern warning to builders flouting city regulations and underscores the government’s dedication to maintaining order and safety in urban development.
