Improve towns with all facilities: KTR tells officials

Hyderabad: Municipal Administration & Urban development Minister KT Rama Rao today stressed the need for planned development of towns and urban areas in the wake of heavy influx of people from villages for better living standards. The State Government gave priority to MA&UD as towns are key financial sources for the country, he said.

The minister released the first Annual Report of Municipal Administration Department at Haritha Plaza along with Mayors, Commissioners and officials concerned here.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said systematic development of towns with facilities and infrastructure will cater to the growing needs of people, who were migrating to the city expecting better living standards. In the wake of rapid urbanization, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was determined to develop the towns with adequate facilities, including road connectivity and infrastructure.

Stating that the MA&UD has 15 IAS officials, KTR said required steps should be taken for providing need-based facilities for the growing population in the towns. He also said the towns were contributing to 45 to 50 per cent of State GSDP and there was a need for planned development of the city. “By 2023, the population of the towns will be crossing 50 per cent and we need to protect them avoiding any sort of problem to the entire system. When we failed to create more facilities, the cities and towns will become cursing for the government and officials”, he admitted. There are nine municipalities in the State which are gearing up for increasing the facilities, he added. (NSS)
