Adults With Weak Immune Systems To Get Third Dose of Covid 19 Vaccine

The Ministry of Health announced on Monday that the adults with weak immune systems will get a third dose of the Covid 19 vaccine. This comes after the increased rate of Covid 19 infection in the past few weeks and the growing evidence that people with weak immune systems may not develop sufficient antibodies after two doses of Covid 19 vaccine.

The ministry released a list of people who will be eligible for the third dose. In the list, priority is given to the people with heart, lung and kidney transplant patients along with cancer patients. Meanwhile, the Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv has already begun the third Pfizer shots to many of the heart transplant recipients on Monday afternoon.

Galia Rahav, the Head of the Infectious Disease Unit and Laboratories at the Sheba Medical Center said in a statement that vaccinations have become “really urgent” now. Rahav cited the rise of the Delta variant. The hospital said it would be testing and tracking the recipients of the third shot for research purposes.
