Jewel shop worker held for misappropriating four kg gold ornaments

Hyderabad: The Banjara Hills Police have arrested one Ghodawath Vivek, 29, for misappropriating gold and diamond ornaments worth Rs 3 crore from Rysun Jewels shop, where he worked as sales executive. The police recovered gold ornaments weighing three kilogram and 20 carat diamonds worth Rs one crore.

Speaking to the media here on Monday, West Zone Dy Commissioner of Police said acting on a complaint from Anoop Kumar, proprietor of Rysun Jewels at Road No. 12 Banjara Hills on January 26 stating that the accused had misappropriated 4kg ornaments, including gold and diamonds by producing fake bills as if he delivered them to different shops or show rooms,  the police plunged into action and arrested the accused and recovered part of the stolen property and produced him before the magistrate.

The modus operandi of the accused was that he gained confidence of his owner by dumping gold and diamond jewellery in different showrooms on credit. After sensing that his owner has full confidence on him as he did not check with the shops about delivery of the stocks, the accused fabricated fake bills and misappropriated the gold stocks. The accused mortgaged one kilogram gold with Manappuram Finance company at New Malakpet for Rs 16 lakh and gave 130 carats of diamonds to his father and one kg gold to his brother Vijayendra Jain. He also got melted some gold and diamond ornaments with him at his house for disposal later.

The DyCP said the accused was previously arrested in cheating cases at by Abids, Shahinayatgunj and Narayanguda police stations. The operation was conducted under the supervision of ACP K S Rao, Inspector Govinda Reddy, K Ravi Kumar, DI, B Srinivas, SI and staff of Banjara Hills police station.(NSS)
