JNTU-Hyderabad to begin inspections of private colleges from August 18

For the academic year 2022-23, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU)-Hyderabad will begin the Fact Finding Committee (FFC) inspections of private colleges on August 18.

226 private colleges, including 148 engineering, 69 pharmacy, and 9 MBA/MCA colleges, have applied for affiliation with the university for 2022-23.

In phases, university officials will inspect private engineering colleges affiliated with the university, followed by pharmacy, MBA, and MCA colleges. The inspections will be conducted by over 20 FFCs, each composed of two to three officials. All JNTU-Hyderabad colleges have been instructed to make necessary arrangements for FFC visits.

A physical inspection will be conducted on all colleges that have applied for affiliation. It will take three to four days for the inspection of private engineering colleges to be completed. In the future, pharmacy colleges, MBA colleges, and MCA colleges will be inspected, said a senior official.

Besides conducting internal assessments, the FFCs will focus mainly on staff and salaries this year. Furthermore, the inspecting team will focus on the infrastructure, including laboratories, in the colleges that have been granted permission to introduce new courses.

The main focus will be on whether the applied colleges have adequate staff in addition to paying them salaries. A number of colleges introduced new courses last year without conducting an inspection. Several colleges have recently introduced new courses, so this year we will inspect whether laboratories have been set up in those colleges, he said.

University approval was granted to 141 private engineering colleges with an intake of 85,920 seats in 914 courses during the academic year 2021-22. In the same way, 70 pharmacy colleges and nine standalone MBA/MCA colleges were granted affiliation by JNTU-Hyderabad out of 73 applications.

It is also worth noting that the upcoming academic year will see a higher tuition fee for students planning to study engineering at private colleges in Telangana.
