US-based drug giant Johnson & Johnson has got a nod and necessary permission from the Centre to use its Covid-19 single-dose vaccine for people across India.
The Centre has accorded permission for this company for emergency use of its Covid-19 vaccine in the country, Union Health Minister Mansuk Mandaviya has stated.
This vaccine has about 85 per cent efficacy as it prevents hospitalisation and deaths, according to information.
He said that the government has expanded its covid-19 vaccination basket. With this, the total number of vaccines used in India increased to five including — Covaxin, Covishield, Sputnik-V, and US-based Moderna respectively.
The Centre offered its approval and permission to Johnson & Johnson Company on the same day it applied on June 6. With this total Corona vaccines increased to five in India to fight against the virus spread.

We gave necessary permission to Johnson and Johnson Company of the US to use its vaccine against the coronavirus in India, he said. This vaccine will be supportive of the fight against the coronavirus in the country, the minister maintained.
While Cipla Pharma is importing Modern vaccines and the City based Biological E is promoting the new single-dose vaccine of Johnson and Johnson respectively according to information.
All four vaccines, including the Sputnik-V vaccine available in the private sector, are double dose vaccines. The new Johnson and Johnson vaccine is only the single-dose vaccine for fighting against the Coronavirus.
