The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is witnessing a quiet yet decisive shift in its leadership as party chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) begins to take a backseat, paving the way for his son and working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) to assume a larger role in the party’s strategy and execution.
This transition was distinctly evident during the preparatory meetings for the upcoming BRS Rythotsava Sabha, held at KCR’s farmhouse in Erravelli. Party insiders revealed that while KCR chaired the meeting, much of the discussion and actionable planning was led by KTR, signalling a significant generational handover.
The meeting was attended by several key senior BRS leaders from Hyderabad and the erstwhile Ranga Reddy district, who assembled to chart out the roadmap for the party’s silver jubilee celebrations. As BRS steps into its 25th year, the leadership recalibration is being seen as both symbolic and strategic—aligning the party’s future course with new energy and youthful leadership.

KCR, who remains the ideological and moral compass of the party, has reportedly adopted a more consultative and mentor-like role, giving KTR ample room to lead from the front. “KCR is confident the BRS will bounce back. He is allowing KTR to take over organisational responsibilities and gear up for upcoming political challenges, including by-elections,” party sources said.
KTR, who has long been seen as the heir apparent, is now actively rallying cadres, energising party workers and positioning himself as the face of the party’s resurgence. Observers note that his hands-on involvement in the planning of the Rythotsava Sabha underscores his readiness to take over the reins fully in the near future.
Friday’s high-level strategy session was attended by former ministers Sabitha Indra Reddy and Talasani Srinivas Yadav, MLCs Shambhipur Raju, Naveen Rao, Vani Devi and Dasoju Sravan. Also present were MLAs Madhavaram Krishna Rao, Maganti Gopinath, Bhandari Lakshma Reddy, D. Sudheer Reddy, Mutha Gopal, Marri Rajashekar Reddy and Kaleru Venkatesh.
Significantly, a strong representation of the party’s younger leadership and second-rung cadre was also visible. BRS youth leaders Patolla Karthik Reddy, Manne Govardhan Reddy, Jayasimha, former chairmen Manne Krishank and Gajjela Nagesh, Kumari Niveditha Sayanna, and Panjugula Srisail Reddy participated in the discussions, highlighting the party’s focus on grooming next-generation leaders.
While a formal announcement on leadership succession is yet to be made, the tone and tenor of the meeting indicate that the BRS is preparing for a new era—with KTR firmly in the driver’s seat and KCR guiding the way as mentor-in-chief.
