King Salman Directs Support for Stranded Iranian Hajj Pilgrims Amid Regional Tensions

In a humanitarian gesture amid rising regional tensions, Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has ordered authorities to extend full support to Iranian Hajj pilgrims stranded in the Kingdom. The directive follows the closure of Iranian airspace after early-morning airstrikes by Israel, which reportedly targeted Iranian nuclear facilities and military leaders.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the plan to assist Iranian pilgrims was presented to King Salman by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has been assigned the responsibility of ensuring that all affected pilgrims receive essential services and support until it is deemed safe for them to return home.

This year’s Hajj pilgrimage, which concluded on Monday, drew more than 1.6 million pilgrims from around the world. Tens of thousands of Iranians were among them, participating in the annual Islamic rite that is obligatory for all financially and physically able Muslims.

The escalating conflict between Israel and Iran has raised serious concerns across the region. Tehran responded to the Israeli airstrikes with missile attacks on Tel Aviv later on Friday, stoking fears of a prolonged and dangerous military escalation.

Despite the volatile situation, Saudi authorities have reiterated their commitment to the safety and well-being of all pilgrims, regardless of nationality. The move has been widely welcomed as a vital demonstration of the Kingdom’s responsibility as the custodian of the two holy mosques.
