Minister for Environment, Forest, and Endowments, Konda Surekha, has issued instructions to officials for the implementation of comprehensive action plans aimed at upgrading zoo and urban forest parks across Telangana. The Minister’s vision is to make these parks more visitor-friendly and environmentally sustainable, enhancing their appeal while preserving ecological balance.

The objective is to boost revenue generation for the Forest department while also providing a better experience for visitors.

Surekha urged the officials to adopt global best practices in zoo management, stressing the need to study and implement effective strategies from around the world. The Minister highlighted Telangana’s nine zoo parks and various urban forest parks as key areas for this transformation. Among the parks receiving special attention were the Nehru Zoo Park and Kakatiya Zoo Park, with the Minister calling for improved visitor amenities such as online ticket booking systems and integrated fast-track parking solutions.
Addressing some of the operational challenges, Surekha pointed out the issue of staff shortages, especially at Nehru Zoo Park. She has authorized the filling of vacant positions to ensure the parks function smoothly. Additionally, the Minister highlighted the need for providing insurance for zoo staff and ensuring regular health monitoring of the animals with the support of veterinary experts.
A particular focus was placed on Kakatiya Zoo Park in Warangal, which has been facing issues with its drainage system, leading to unpleasant odors. Surekha directed officials to resolve these issues promptly, ensuring a better environment for both animals and visitors.
In conclusion, Konda Surekha’s directives aim to enhance the state’s zoo and park facilities, blending modernity with sustainability while ensuring the welfare of the animals and improving the visitor experience. The ongoing efforts will not only transform the zoos into world-class facilities but also contribute to the state’s environmental goals and revenue growth.
