KTR meets with army officials to discuss Secunderabad cantonment issues

Minister KT Rama Rao held a review meeting with Army officials, including General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Dakshin Bharat Area, Lt Gen A Arun, bringing a ray of hope to Secunderabad Cantonment residents and other military areas.

During the meeting, the Army officials assured the Minister that they would cooperate with the State government in development matters and coordinate with the GHMC, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, and other departments to ensure the smooth progress of the developmental work.

According to a press release, joint inspections will also be held soon, which said the main issues discussed included road closures in Secunderabad Cantonment Board jurisdiction, works related to the widening of the Balkapur nala which runs through the Army area, a skyway at Mehdipatnam and a link road that passes through Golconda Golf Course, Dollar Hills and Neknampur.

In addition to the infrastructure being developed in a major way on all four sides of Hyderabad, the Minister briefed the Army officials on a host of proposed development projects in the Army area as well.

In spite of the fact that he met the Defence Minister and higher officials of the Ministry of Defence and provided several representations seeking the acquisition of lands for the construction of the proposed skyway, Rama Rao said the Centre had yet to take any proactive steps. Moreover, he said that people, especially from Malkajgiri and its vicinity, had been affected by the closure of roads.

Lt Gen Arun and the team have promised to extend full support to the State government for any developmental work. Army officials said they would soon inspect the sites, along with officials of GHMC, regarding road closures. In addition, the Army said it would support the construction of the Mehdipatnam skywalk and the link road crossing the Golconda Golf Course.
