KTR slams BJP for claiming credit for Telangana’s 100 pc drinking water connections

TRS working president and Minister KT Rama Rao objected strongly to the fact that the Centre claimed credit for supplying drinking water to every house in Telangana as part of its Jal Jeevan Mission-Har Ghar Jal campaign.

Rama Rao wrote a tweet in which he requested Narendra Modi to inform the people of Telangana about the quantum of the Union government’s contribution to the Mission Bhagiratha scheme, which provides drinking water supply to all households in the state.

He wrote: Appropriating a flagship program of #Telangana Govt where your Govt has Zero contribution is not befitting stature of a PM.

It was a response to a social media campaign claiming that over 38 lakh households in Telangana have got tap water connections within 3 years since 2019 and providing ‘relief to women’.

The Prime Minister was quoted as saying in a misleading statement that “the people of Telangana are making rich contributions to national progress. Our government is working to ensure adequate development opportunities for the people of the State which will enhance prosperity.”

In August 2016, the Telangana government launched Mission Bhagiratha in the Gajwel constituency to provide tap water to every household. In 2020, Telangana became the only state to achieve this feat. After three years, in August 2019, the Centre launched Jal Jeevan Mission as a replica of the scheme. In an effort to highlight its achievements, the Modi government recently took credit for providing drinking water to the entire state.

Recently, KTR stated that the opposition was scared to see the developments taking place in Telangana and told the opposition that he was ready to resign if the schemes implemented in Telangana were implemented in the BJP and Congress-ruled states. Leaders of the BJP were also criticized by KTR for inciting caste and religious hatred.
