KTR to inaugurate 5 foot over bridges in Hyderabad

To provide pedestrians with a sense of safety, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Minister KT Rama Rao is scheduled to inaugurate the constructed Five-foot Bridge (FoBs) soon.

Following a number of accidents, the city and Cyberabad police marked several intersections as accident-prone areas and asked the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to construct FoBs at some of the city’s main intersections.

Five of the 22 FoBs construction requests have been completed near Hyderabad Central in Punjagutta, St. Ann’s High School in Secunderabad, Swapna Theatre in Rajendra Nagar, Neredmet bus stop, and near NSSK High School in Ferozguda.

For the construction of these five points of entry, around 16 crore rupees were used. Apart from the installation of lifts and escalators, walkways, staircases, roof sheets, mild steel railings, crash barriers, and flooring were also completed for these facilities.

The New Indian Express (TNIE) quoted Mohd Ziauddin, engineer-in-chief at GHMC, as saying, “The FoBs on the routes with heavy traffic would assist pedestrians in circumventing the streets completely, and commuters as well. This is especially true in busy areas with malls and markets.”

Pedestrians and motorists will notice an improvement in safety on busy roads as a result of the FoBs. The state government chose to forego a PPP agreement to build these skywalks.

In addition, KT Rama Rao unveiled the first phase of two projects that Ganesha Ecosphere is setting up at the KMTP, which is one of the biggest PET bottle recycling companies in India. Ganesha Group is investing about 350 crores in the manufacturing of recycled polyester fibre and yarn and will be ramping up to 550 crores by next year.

About 60,000 tonnes of waste PET bottles will be consumed annually by the two units, which will employ more than 1,000 people.
