In the latest update from the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, the Supreme Court on Wednesday pulled up the Uttar Pradesh government for delay in recording explanations of witnesses before a legal judge in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, where eight people were killed, and furthermore advised the state government to dissipate the feeling that it is dragging its feet under the situation.
Senior Advocate Informs SC Of Recordings Being Available In A Sealed Cover
A bench headed by Chief Justice N.V. Ramana and involving Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli told the Uttar Pradesh government counsel, “You are dragging your feet. Please dispel that impression”.
Senior advocate Harish Salve, addressing the Uttar Pradesh government, presented that a report on the occurrence has been recorded in a sealed cover. The bench answered, “No, that was not needed and we have recently gotten it now…we held up till 1 a.m. the previous evening for any recording. However, we didn’t get anything”.

Justice Kant added that the court said nothing regarding the sealed cover. Salve informed the bench that four out of 44 witnesses regarding the present situation have recorded their assertions under segment 164 (preceding a legal judge), and 10 accused have been captured up until this point.
SC Bench Fires Rounds Of Questioning In The Lakhimpur Kheri Case
Salve said there are two wrongdoings: one where the vehicle was crashed into ranchers and the other one was regarding the lynching. The bench took shots back at the Uttar Pradesh government counsel, “For what reason haven’t different witnesses recorded their statements?”
Salve answered that it is going on and added that out of the ten blamed, four were in police care.
The bench questioned what befell the other six. It added, “You didn’t look for authority so they were shipped off legal guardianship. What is the circumstance for this situation?”
Salve then presented that the assertions of different witnesses were being recorded, yet the courts were closed.

The bench questioned further, “Criminal courts shut for Dussehra get-away?” The chief justice noted that this might turn out to be an unending story and that is not acceptable. The next hearing has now been scheduled for October 26. ,
