The land acquisition process for the highly anticipated Old City Metro Rail Project is progressing at an accelerated pace, with compensation for 200 affected properties expected to be finalized by the end of this month. Once the compensation is disbursed, demolition work will begin, clearing the way for the construction of the 7.5 km-long MGBS-Chandrayangutta metro route, a key part of Hyderabad’s metro expansion.
Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) Managing Director NVS Reddy provided an update, stating that requisitions for 900 of the identified 1,100 properties have already been submitted to the District Collector under the Land Acquisition Act. Additionally, preliminary notifications have been issued for 800 properties, and preliminary declarations for 400 properties have already been completed.
The project team is working closely with property owners, holding simultaneous negotiations to expedite the acquisition process. In light of concerns about heritage conservation, Reddy assured that special care is being taken to protect religious and historical structures along the metro route. The team is exploring innovative engineering solutions to ensure the preservation of these important landmarks.
