Lizards Cause Power Outages in Telangana, Residents Mystified

In a bizarre twist of events, the diminutive yet agile lizard population has emerged as a significant threat to uninterrupted power supply across Telangana, according to recent reports from local power distribution corporations.

Both the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TGSPDCL) and Northern Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TGNPDCL) have been actively documenting instances of lizards causing disruptions by getting stuck on horn gap (HG) fuses and distribution transformers. These incidents have led to sudden power outages in various districts, including the bustling Cyber City circle in Hyderabad.

Social media platforms, notably microblogging site X, have become platforms for public scrutiny and sarcastic commentary on the matter. Citizens are questioning the sudden surge in lizard-related power issues, contrasting it with the quieter times during the previous BRS regime.

For instance, responses from the distribution companies often cite lizards falling on equipment as the cause of outages. One recent incident involved a lizard allegedly causing a disturbance on a transformer during an early morning power fluctuation, prompting a swift response from TGSPDCL technicians.

In another case, an official response attributed a power interruption to “lizards fighting on the transformer,” illustrating the unusual nature of the reported incidents. There have even been instances where complaints about power disruptions have been met with requests to delete tweets, highlighting a sensitive approach by the utilities.

On social media, reactions range from humorous to critical, with users suggesting fanciful solutions like forming a rapid action force to curb the lizard menace. Others question the timing and frequency of these incidents, pondering why such issues were less prevalent in the past administration.

Despite the humor, the issue underscores genuine concerns about infrastructure maintenance and public service reliability in Telangana, urging authorities to address the root causes of these disruptions and ensure robust power supply management.
