‘Looter Bride’ Anuradha Paswan Arrested After Conning 25 Men Through Fake Marriages

In a dramatic twist to a long-running scam, Anuradha Paswan, infamously known as the ‘looteri Dulhan’ or ‘looting bride’, has been arrested by Sawai Madhopur Police for allegedly cheating 25 men across various states through fraudulent marriages. She would assume new identities, relocate frequently, and dupe unsuspecting men into marrying her before fleeing with jewellery, cash, and other valuables worth lakhs.

The 32-year-old accused created an elaborate façade of being a poor, helpless woman with an unemployed brother, seeking marriage under emotional and financial distress. Once the marriage was fixed through a fake matchmaker — usually a gang member posing as a broker — a customary wedding was conducted either at a temple or residence. The grooms were lured into paying up to ₹2 lakh as broker fees.

After the marriage, Ms. Paswan would blend seamlessly into the family, acting as the perfect daughter-in-law, building trust, and behaving affectionately with her new in-laws. Just when the family let their guard down, she would execute her escape plan — usually drugging the family through food and absconding with valuables.

One of her recent victims, Vishnu Sharma from Sawai Madhopur, borrowed money to fund his wedding. He married Anuradha on April 20, through an agent named Pappu Meena. Within two weeks, she vanished with jewellery worth ₹1.25 lakh, ₹30,000 in cash, and a ₹30,000 smartphone.

“I never thought she would deceive me. That night, I felt drugged. I usually don’t sleep that deeply,” Mr. Sharma recalled. After receiving the complaint, Sawai Madhopur Police decided to turn the tables on Paswan. In a clever sting operation, a police constable posed as a prospective groom and, with the help of the same matchmaking network, lured her into another fake marriage.

Upon confirming her identity and her involvement in previous cases, the police arrested her in Bhopal. Investigations revealed that all her documents, marriage agreements, and identities were fake. The police are now tracking down her accomplices and suspect she may have duped even more men than currently reported.

Paswan’s arrest has shed light on an organized racket involving fraudulent marriages, emotional manipulation, and financial theft — one that exploited the vulnerabilities of men seeking life partners.
