Mahabubnagar, once hailed as a potential IT hub for the region, is witnessing growing frustration among local youth due to a lack of employment opportunities at its IT Tower. Established by the previous government with the goal of providing job opportunities in the Information Technology (IT) sector, the tower has not lived up to expectations, leaving many disappointed.
Located in Divitipally, Mahabubnagar, the IT Tower was set up on a four-acre plot within the IT and Multi-purpose Industrial Corridor, with an investment of nearly Rs 40 crore. The tower, inaugurated by former IT Minister KT Rama Rao in May last year, was initially seen as a beacon of hope for local youth who wished to avoid migrating to cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, or Chennai in search of work.
To kickstart employment, a job fair was organized at the Shilparamam in Mahabubnagar under the Telangana Academy of Skills and Knowledge (TASK). Thousands of unemployed youth attended, and several companies signed agreements to begin operations at the IT Tower. Nine companies initially started their operations, providing jobs to nearly 700 people, offering local employment that was highly valued by the youth.

However, this sense of hope was short-lived. By January this year, all but two companies ceased operations. Despite the change in government and a brief resumption of activity, only Global Logic and Muller Connect remain operational today, with a combined total of just 103 employees—far from the potential 1,000 jobs that the IT Tower could have offered.
In contrast, IT parks in other districts, such as Warangal and Khammam, continue to thrive. Warangal’s IT park is home to four companies employing 800 tech professionals, while Khammam boasts 13 active companies providing jobs to 700 skilled workers.
The Mahabubnagar IT Tower, spread across four floors, is equipped with essential facilities, including office spaces, conference halls, and high-speed internet. Despite its infrastructure and the city’s good connectivity with road, rail, and proximity to the Shamshabad airport, the tower remains underutilized.
With a steady supply of engineering students and IT professionals in Mahabubnagar, the lack of growth in the IT sector is a major concern. The tower’s potential to offer up to 1,000 jobs remains unrealized, leaving many locals questioning the viability and future of the project.
