Major Accident Averted in Bihar as Freight Train Splits in Two

A potentially catastrophic accident was averted in Chhapra district, Bihar, when a moving freight train unexpectedly split into two parts. The incident occurred near the West Railway Gate of Deghwara, under the East Central Railway Sonepur Division, and caused a temporary halt in railway operations and road traffic.

On Wednesday, the main coupling of the goods train broke while it was in motion, leading to the sudden separation of the engine from the majority of its bogies. Witnesses reported that the locomotive continued moving ahead for a short distance, carrying over half of the freight cars. The shocking sight prompted local residents to panic and raise alarms, drawing attention to the unfolding situation.

The guard of the freight train quickly alerted the driver about the separation. Upon receiving the news, the driver halted the goods train and carefully reversed it to reconnect the detached coaches. Meanwhile, local residents played a crucial role in notifying the driver about the incident, ensuring that further complications were avoided.

Following the driver’s action, the station superintendent of Daghwara was informed about the situation. He immediately rushed to the scene with technical staff to assess the damage and facilitate repairs. They successfully reconnected the coupling, allowing the goods train to continue its journey shortly thereafter.

In light of the incident, the Station Superintendent of Daghwara stated that an official report is being compiled to be sent up the chain of command. He assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible for the mishap.

The incident caused significant disruptions, with the railway gate on National Highway 19 remaining closed for approximately one hour. Consequently, traffic on the railway tracks came to a complete standstill, impacting both road and rail travel in the area.

While the incident raised concerns about railway safety protocols, quick action by railway personnel and alert locals prevented what could have been a disastrous situation. The railway authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure such incidents do not recur in the future, reinforcing safety measures across the network.
