Man Fined for Washing Car with Drinking Water in Hyderabad

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has intensified its efforts to curb the misuse of drinking water, imposing strict fines on violators. In a recent case, a resident of Journalist Colony, Jubilee Hills, was penalized Rs 1,000 for using potable water to wash a car, violating municipal regulations.

The incident came to light during a routine inspection by HMWSSB’s General Manager of O&M Division-6, Harishankar, and his team. They discovered that the resident, identified as Yeratha Shobha, at House No. 8-2-293/82/J/A/20, was using drinking water for vehicle cleaning. Acting under HMWSSB’s water conservation rules, officials imposed a fine and issued a warning.

This is not the first instance of such violations. On March 5, another resident in Jubilee Hills faced a similar fine for using drinking water to wash a motorcycle. With growing concerns over water scarcity, the HMWSSB has been receiving numerous complaints regarding water wastage, prompting increased inspections across the city.

To tackle the issue, HMWSSB has ramped up surprise inspections during water supply hours. Officials have warned that repeat offenders will face stricter penalties, which could include higher fines or disconnection of water supply in severe cases. The board is also conducting awareness campaigns to educate residents about responsible water usage and conservation.

A senior HMWSSB official stated, “Water is a precious resource, and its misuse, especially in a city like Hyderabad, cannot be tolerated. We urge citizens to use water judiciously and report any violations they witness.”

The municipal corporation is encouraging residents to report instances of water wastage through the HMWSSB customer care helpline or by directly contacting the authorities. The board has assured that strict action will be taken against those who flout water conservation norms.

With the summer season approaching and water demand expected to rise, authorities emphasize that conserving drinking water is crucial for ensuring an uninterrupted supply to all residents. The HMWSSB’s proactive measures serve as a strong reminder that water misuse will not be taken lightly.
