Maoist Activity from Telangana Declines in Chhattisgarh Amid Rising Tensions

The number of Maoists from Telangana operating in Chhattisgarh’s Dandakaranya region has seen a significant decline, according to state intelligence. At present, only 90 individuals from Telangana are believed to be present in the area, serving in key positions within the Communist Party of India-Maoist (Maoist Party). Despite the reduced presence, these members continue to hold influential roles in the central committee and other vital Maoist committees.

Notably, of the 13 members in the Maoist central committee, 11 are from Telangana. Two central committee secretaries, Namballa Keshavarau and Sudhakar, hail from Andhra Pradesh, with the remaining nine members also from Telangana. This concentration of senior leaders from Telangana has resulted in them holding the majority of central committee positions.

Intelligence sources suggest that many of these senior Maoist leaders are now aging and facing health issues, which has limited their mobility. As a result, their activities are restricted, and the movement of these individuals has become more localized. However, authorities remain vigilant, with intelligence reports indicating that the remaining leaders are based in safe regions, away from immediate danger.

Recent developments in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, highlight the ongoing security operations targeting Maoist activities. Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav confirmed that a combing operation was initiated after intelligence reports indicated a key meeting of Maoist leaders in a forest area within the National Park. The meeting reportedly involved several high-ranking leaders, including Bandi Prakash, Adellu alias Bhaskar, Buchanna, Krishna, and Ajith, along with 40 to 45 armed Maoists.

Upon receiving this intelligence, security forces launched a search operation, which led to an exchange of gunfire lasting three to four hours. Authorities in Bastar suspect that the Maoist leaders fled the scene as soon as the encounter began. The situation remains fluid, and security forces are preparing for more aggressive operations in the coming days.

The ongoing Maoist conflict in Chhattisgarh is also having implications for Telangana. To prevent any potential infiltration, Telangana police are conducting continuous combing operations along the state’s borders. These precautionary measures are part of a broader strategy to ensure that Maoist elements do not cross into Telangana, further complicating the security situation.

As the conflict persists, authorities in both Chhattisgarh and Telangana remain on high alert, with the expectation of more intensive security operations to address the threat posed by Maoist factions in the region.
