Mass Protest in Hyderabad: Unemployed Youth Demand Telangana Govt Announce 2 Lakh Jobs

Widespread anger erupted at Dharna Chowk in Hyderabad on Friday as hundreds of unemployed youth staged a protest against the Telangana Congress government, demanding the immediate release of job notifications for two lakh government posts. The protestors accused the ruling party of going back on its pre-election promise to create employment opportunities.

Chanting slogans such as “Where are the two lakh jobs?” and “Stop playing with our future!”, job aspirants from various parts of the state—including library study circles and hostels—gathered in large numbers. They expressed deep frustration over the prolonged delay in releasing notifications for major recruitment drives including the mega DSC (District Selection Committee), police constable recruitment, and Group services.

“During the Assembly election campaign, the Congress party promised to fill two lakh government jobs within a year. It’s been 18 months now, and there’s still no sign of new notifications,” said Naresh, a Group aspirant. “We’ve been preparing tirelessly, but age and time are slipping away.”

Rekha Singh, an aspirant for Group-I services, dismissed the government’s claims of filling 50,000 vacancies. “Most of these posts were notified by the previous BRS government. The current government merely handed out appointment letters for those positions and is now taking credit,” she remarked.

Janardhan Anumulapuri, another job aspirant and youth leader, strongly opposed the idea of releasing a job calendar. “We don’t want a calendar—we need notifications. Delaying recruitment risks many aspirants losing eligibility due to age,” he said.

Highlighting further concerns, aspirant Hussain pointed out that despite court cases being cited as the reason for delay, only one case exists related to Group-I recruitment. “There are thousands of vacancies in departments like TRANSCO and Telangana Power Generation Corporation, but the government has not moved forward,” he added.

The protestors raised the following demands:

  • Immediate release of notifications for two lakh job vacancies
  • Issuance of mega DSC notification
  • Notification for 20,000 police constable posts
  • Release of 2,000 Group-II and 5,000 Group-III job notifications
  • Filling of vacancies in welfare residential educational institutions
  • Revocation of GO 46

The protest reflected a growing unrest among educated youth who feel sidelined despite repeated promises of employment generation by the state government.
