Mehdipatnam Bus Stop Emerges as City’s Busiest Hub, TGSRTC Plans Expansion

In Hyderabad, the Mehdipatnam bus stop stands out as the busiest among the city’s 1,000 bus stops, facilitating around 1.5 lakh passengers daily to various destinations. Recent data from the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) highlights that daily, the city sees a total of 20 lakh passengers commuting from its various bus stops.

Following Mehdipatnam, other major hubs include Secunderabad railway station with 1.43 lakh daily passengers, Afzal Gunj with 1.20 lakh, and Secunderabad Gurudwara bus stop with 71,000 passengers. Additional busy stops include LB Nagar (70,000), Rathifile (67,000), Dilsukhnagar (61,000), Uppal (58,000), and Patancheru (54,000) passengers commuting daily.

Since the introduction of the Mahalakshmi scheme, which aimed to enhance public transport accessibility, daily passenger numbers have risen from 16 lakh to 20 lakh. To manage this increased demand, TGSRTC plans to introduce 125 new buses in the upcoming academic year.

Recognizing the travel patterns, particularly among women passengers opting for short distances, the corporation is strategizing to introduce more buses dedicated to shorter routes to alleviate delays on longer journeys.
