The occurrence of two guys drinking alcohol in a traffic booth built up at a junction in Hitech City, Madhapur, Hyderabad, has piqued the public’s interest and worry. A witness videotaped the incident, which shows the two men holding liquor bottles while seated inside the traffic station beside Cyber Towers. This conduct calls into question public decency and the deployment of a police force for such purposes.

It’s worth noting that liquor prices in Hyderabatraffic station beside Cyber Towersd and other regions of Telangana have been reduced since May 2023. Alcohol sales have been an important source of money for the state, with the government instituting price increases to boost revenue. Following the creation of the state, liquor prices were raised twice, while beer prices were later dropped. As a result, the state’s liquor revenue has skyrocketed from Rs 8000 crore in 2014 to approximately Rs 30,000 crore in 2022-23.
Furthermore, the excise department has designated Sunday as a working day for labeling new liquor bottle pricing, demonstrating the seriousness with which the state manages the alcohol market and revenue collection.
While the government’s emphasis on revenue production is acceptable, it is critical to address public order concerns and guarantee that incidences of public intoxication and misappropriation of public areas are dealt with effectively. It is the obligation of law enforcement to keep the peace and prevent similar occurrences from happening in public spaces.
