Miraculous Escape for Passengers as RTC Bus Loses Rear Tyres in Morapalli

In a harrowing incident on the outskirts of Morapalli, more than 100 passengers, primarily women, narrowly escaped injury when the rear tyres of an RTC bus detached from the wheel hub. The incident occurred as the Palle Velugu bus, operating under the Nirmal Depot, was en route from Jagtial to Nirmal.

The dramatic event unfolded when the two rear tyres suddenly came off the wheel hub, causing the bus to drag along the road with a loud noise. Thanks to the swift reaction and exceptional control of the bus driver, the vehicle was brought to a halt safely, averting what could have been a major disaster.

The incident happened around the outskirts of Morapalli, with reports indicating that there were at least 170 passengers on board at the time of the accident. Despite the severity of the situation, no injuries were reported, a testament to the driver’s alertness and skillful handling of the bus.

The accident has raised significant concerns about the safety of public transportation in the region, particularly in light of the Mahalakshmi scheme, which has increased bus occupancy to more than 100 percent. The scheme, while praised for its success, has highlighted the growing strain on existing bus resources, revealing a critical shortage of vehicles to meet the heightened demand.

Local officials and passengers have expressed alarm over the incident, attributing it to both maintenance issues and the inadequacy of the current bus fleet. The lack of proper maintenance and the high occupancy levels have been cited as contributing factors to the accident.

In response to the incident, K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) took to Twitter, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. KTR pointed out that there were 170 passengers on board when the tyres detached and called for immediate action to increase the number of buses. He also urged the state government to address the maintenance issues and ensure the safety of passengers.

The incident underscores a pressing need for improvements in public transportation infrastructure and maintenance. As local authorities and transportation officials evaluate the situation, the safety and well-being of commuters remain a top priority.
