Mumbai School Teacher Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault of Minor Student

Mumbai police have arrested a 40-year-old female teacher from a prominent city school on charges of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old male student over the past year. The teacher, who is married with children, faces serious charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Juvenile Justice Act, and the Indian Penal Code.

According to police sources, the accused, an English teacher, taught the victim during his Class XI. The investigation reveals that her inappropriate interest allegedly began during preparations for the school’s annual function dance group in December 2023. By January 2024, she reportedly began making sexual gestures towards the student.

Police state that when the boy became reluctant and started avoiding her, the teacher allegedly enlisted the help of a female friend outside the school. This friend, who has also been charged, contacted the minor student. She reportedly told him relationships between older women and teenage boys were “common” and that he and the teacher were “made for each other,” persuading him to meet the teacher.

Subsequently, the teacher allegedly picked up the student in a sedan and took him to a secluded location. “She forcefully undressed him and sexually assaulted him. When the student started feeling anxious over the next few days, she gave him some anti-anxiety tablets,” a police officer disclosed. This vehicle has been seized for investigation.

A second officer detailed further alleged assaults, stating the teacher would get the student intoxicated before taking him to five-star hotels in South Mumbai and near the airport, where she coerced him into sexual relations.

The ordeal came to light when the student’s family noticed behavioural changes and confronted him. Initially, after hearing his account, the family decided against reporting, hoping the harassment would cease once the student graduated from school earlier this year.

However, the situation escalated when the teacher allegedly contacted the student again after his graduation, using her domestic staff to arrange a meeting. This prompted the family to approach the police and file a formal complaint.

A case has been registered against the teacher and her friend under stringent sections of the POCSO Act, including Section 4 (penetrative sexual assault), Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault), and Section 17 (abetment of offence), alongside relevant sections of the IPC and Juvenile Justice Act. The school involved declined to comment at the time of reporting.
