Mumbai Under Section 144 Over Omicron Spread

With the omicron spreading in India, the Mumbai Police has chapped prohibitory orders under Sec 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) restricting the get-together till Sunday night, authorities said here on Saturday.

The orders, which happened from 12 PM (Friday-Saturday), were given by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) and will be in power till 12 PM (Sunday-Monday).

“The request has been given to keep risk to human existence from Omicron, a new variation of Covid-19, just as a danger to the rule of peace and law circumstance against the background of the savagery that occurred in Amravati, Malegaon (Nashik) and Nanded,” said the warning.

Violators will draw inactivity under Indian Penal Code Sec. 188 and other lawful arrangements, it added.

The prohibitory orders are probably going to confine the development of the “Tiranga Rally” with north of 300 transports and different vehicles beginning from various pieces of the state to Mumbai, coordinated on Saturday by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
