As per the latest reports, the Union Health Ministry asked the National Board of Examination (NBE) on Friday to postpone NEET PG 2022 by 6 to 8 weeks as it conflicts with NEET PG 2021 counselling.
MBBS graduates are unable to take the exam as it would fall during their internship period
The development comes after the filing of a petition in the Supreme Court by MBBS graduates. Students requesting a postponement of the exam stated that if the exam is held on March 12, many MBBS graduates would be unable to take the exam because it would fall during their mandatory internship period.
In a letter to the National Board of Examinations, the health ministry stated that the NEET PG 2022 date to be postponed due to representations received from doctors regarding a request to delay the medical entrance test because it conflicts with the counselling date.
The petition filed in the Supreme Court asked the court to direct the NBE to postpone the test until various requirements, such as completion of the mandatory internship period outlined in the PG Regulations, were met by many aspirants.

Several MBBS graduates whose internships were brought to a halt due to their Covid duty would be ineligible to take the test due to a lack of mandatory internship duty, which wouldn’t be their fault, according to the petition.
“The petitioners (with 1500 candidates) stated that they were assigned to Covid duties in 2021, and thus their internship was postponed. They have claimed that they are victims of circumstance and that they weren’t informed at any point that serving in Covid duties would result in them being ineligible to take the NEET-PG,” the lawyer for the petitioners said to PTI. The petition also requested that the internship completion deadline be extended from May 31 to June 30.
