Despite enormous concern expressed on social media and in publications about the deteriorating health of Hyderabad’s historic Nizamia General Hospital, the government has paid little attention to the problem. The ladies’ hostel, which was established eight years ago, is still in severe need of basic utilities.
The girls’ hostel, which opened in 2015, serves students from all around the country studying undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Despite several student complaints about the hostel’s worsening condition, no significant improvements have been done.
The hostel, which seats approximately 55 students, is located near to the hospital’s severely deteriorating maternity unit.Students’ complaints center on a lack of critical amenities and sanitation. The hostel’s three floors are plagued by poor infrastructure, including everyday drainage issues in the restrooms.
Sanitary conditions are seriously harmed with only one toilet for every 20 pupils on each floor. The students’ health is not only harmed by the dirty atmosphere, but they are also deprived of fresh air.The presence of pests such as rats in the building exacerbates the situation. Students find it difficult to check the safety of their meals, while insect problems disrupt their sleep at night.
Students are dissatisfied with the authorities’ apathy to their problems. Despite repeated complaints, fundamental issues such as drainage remain neglectedDue to the lack of a permanent warden, the students allege a lack of sufficient security precautions within the hostel, leaving them feeling uncomfortable at night.
Additionally, the hostel lacks mess facilities, leaving students to prepare their own meals. The hostel rooms’ living conditions are judged uninhabitable.Telangana State Medical Service and Infrastructure Development Corporation officials are said to have assessed the building work and promised to start making modifications soon. Despite these assurances, students are left wondering when these issues will be properly handled.
