Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently found itself under a lot of scrutiny against the remarks allegedly made by the Home Minister Amit Shah. Responding to the statement, neighbouring country Nepal has expressed their concerns.
Nepal Ambassador Expresses Displeasure Against The Recent Home Minister’s Statements
As per the Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb, the Home Minister Amit Shah had publicly said that the Bharatiya Janata Party has plans to expand their horizons and form party in neighbouring countries like Nepal and Sri Lanka. He further said that the BJP deeply values the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) partnership amongst the nations.
According to the local media reports, Amit Shah made the statement during his visit to Tripura. This statement comes after BJP won in the majority of the states in India. Deb said that they were talking in the State Guest House with the North-East Zonal Secretary of BJP, Ajay Jamwal.

Jamwal made a statement about BJP forming government in several states in India and in response, Amit Shah said (as per Tripura CM) that they are looking forward to expanding the party in Sri Lanka and Nepal and form governments there as well.
As per the Nepal Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, a formal objection to the statement has already been sent.
Sri Lanka Reacts To Amit Shah’s Alleged Statement
Nimal Punchihewa, Sri Lanka’s Election Commission Chairman on Monday denied the reports from the Bharatiya Janata party to form a political party in their country. He said that Sri Lanka’s electoral law and policies do not support an arrangement like this.
As per the reports from local media, Nimal clarified that as per the Sri Lankan electoral law, the political parties or groups are allowed to have and maintain external links with other parties or groups outside Sri Lanka. But no other foreign political party is allowed to work within the Sri Lankan premises.

As per the reports, the Sri Lankan President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s brother Basil once made a statement of similar interests. Reports suggest that over the time he has envisioned the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna modelling their ruling structure and practices as per the Bharatiya Janata Party or as the Communist Party of China.
Tripura CM Not New To Controversial Statements
While the Tripura Chief Minister’s recent statements have sparked some controversies, but he isn’t new to them. Back in April 2018, he claimed that during the time of Mahabharata, the internet and the complex satellite communication system existed and was used. This drew a lot of attention from the opponents, academicians and social media users across the country.

He was also criticised heavily when he questioned the crowning of Diana Hayden in 1997 as “Miss World”. In his statement he said that the Indian beauty (as per him) should look like that of the Goddesses Lakshmi and Saraswati.
