In the year 2014 GHMC launched the Annapurna Meals scheme and this year they are going to reach a new milestone as Telangana’s Annapurna Meals Scheme will complete serving 10 crore meals.
For just Rs 5, Annapurna Meals Scheme provides a meal. Approximately 9.67 crore meals have been served to the needy since the program began. Approximately Rs 185 crore was spent on Annapurna Meals by the Telangana government.
Within GHMC limits, eight canteens have been set up to provide quality food to low-income groups. The number of meals served during lunch each day is around 60,000. Each Annapurna Meal plate features rice (400 grams), sambar (120 grams), curry (100 grams), and pickle (15 grams). Annapurna meals are mainly consumed by those who earn a daily wage in Hyderabad and those who live on welfare. Government hospitals have also been equipped with canteens.

Telangana rice procurement to resume by Food Corporation of India
The Food Corporation of India (FCI) will resume rice procurement in Telangana on Wednesday, according to Union food and public distribution minister Piyush Goyal. Moreover, he blamed the TRS government for being insensitive by suspending the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana scheme and the impasse over rice procurement.
Since the state resumed distribution of additional 5 kilograms of rice last month after a two-month hiatus, the FCI has been directed to procure rice in the state. I have allowed the procurement now as they have acknowledged the error, Goyal told a press conference in Delhi alongside tourism minister G Kishan Reddy.
