NIA Conducts Raids to Disrupt Terror Ecosystem in Jammu Region

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) intensified its efforts to dismantle the terrorist support system in the Jammu region on Wednesday, executing a series of coordinated raids across a dozen locations, including residences of suspected over-ground workers (OGWs). The operation commenced early in the morning and spanned throughout the day in various parts of Jammu city.

Paramilitary forces were deployed outside the targeted residences, ensuring secure perimeters while NIA teams conducted thorough searches and seized critical documents. According to an NIA spokesman, these raids were part of an ongoing investigation linked to case RC-04/2024/NIA/JMU, which was registered last year, focusing on credible information about the infiltration of active terrorists.

The NIA’s actions specifically targeted homes associated with OGWs tied to the newly formed offshoots and affiliates of banned terrorist organizations, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The operation encompassed a total of 12 locations within the Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the confiscation of multiple incriminatory materials believed to forge connections between the terrorists and the OGWs. The materials seized are currently under examination to expose a broader terror conspiracy.

The FIR, which was registered on November 2, 2024, cites various offenses under sections of the BNS 2023, the Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act of 1908, and the UA(P) Act of 1967. It outlines that the Central Government acquired credible intelligence regarding the infiltration of active terrorists belonging to LeT and JeM, who crossed into Indian territory through the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LOC).

These infiltrations were facilitated by OGWs and other terror associates based in villages bordering the IB and LOC, who provided critical resources including logistical support, food, shelter, and financial aid, ensuring the terrorists’ safe passage to the hinterlands, particularly the districts of Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi, Rajouri, Poonch, and into the Kashmir Valley.

The FIR further alleges that these active terrorists, OGWs, and associates have orchestrated physical and cyber criminal conspiracies, employing secure encrypted social media applications to plan a war against the Government of India. Additionally, the report highlights a series of terrorist attacks in the regions of Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri, and Poonch, resulting in numerous casualties among civilians and security forces personnel.

In a related development, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, conducted a comprehensive assessment of security measures at various Border Outposts (BOPs) in the Hiranagar sector, spanning Kathua and Samba districts. The inspection aimed to evaluate the operational readiness of security forces stationed along the International Border, visiting key locations including BPP Sanyal in Hiranagar, and BOP Chakra, Mawa, and others.

The NIA’s operation underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to combat terrorism and dismantle networks that pose a threat to national security. As the investigation progresses, further insights into the links between the OGWs and terrorist modules are anticipated.
