Amidst the rising cases of Covid 19 across the world, Afghanistan has reportedly run short on Covid 19 vaccines. The government is waiting for the new deliveries while battling the third wave of Covid 19 in the kingdom.
No Vaccination for the Newly Registered in Afghanistan
As per the latest reports, Afghanistan Health Ministry’s spokesman Dastagir Nazari said that the country has stopped vaccinating any new registers. Only the people who have already received the first dose of the Covid 19 vaccine are being given the vaccines.
The country’s estimated population is 37 million. So far 500,000 doses of the AstraZeneca jab from India and 468,000 doses from the International vaccine sharing program COVAX was given.

The vaccine doses were used to vaccinate the health workers, members of the armed forces, teachers, and media staff. However, Nazari clarified that the country is expected to receive another 700,000 Covid 19 vaccine doses from China in the near future. But there is no exact date for deliveries.
Kabul Has The Budget to Buy Vaccines for Another 28 Percent of Population
While Afghanistan struggles to receive vaccines for the entire population, Nazari confirmed that the government has the budget for another 28 percent of the population. He said that the government is trying to get vaccines for everyone as soon as possible.
Nazari added that Afghanistan is facing the same issues as many of the under-developed countries amidst the massive global vaccine demand.
At the same time, the country is also going through a massive hit in the number of Covid 19 cases. Currently there are 1500 intensive care unit beds are available for the whole country. Out of these 72 percent are already occupies by the patients.
Afghanistan’s current Covid-19 caseload and death toll stand at 70,761 and 2,919, respectively.
