The China International Import Expo in Shanghai has more than 3000 global businesses from over 120 countries but no Indian company is listed as a participant in that world’s largest fair focusing on imports.
4th CIIE Exhibitors Shows No Indian Company
As per the reports, India’s absence from the event that started on Thursday is because of unclear reasons. It comes amidst the robust growth within the India-China relations including the bilateral trade this year. The number of Indian companies that attend the CIIE has been decreasing since the past few years and has dropped to zero at this year.

The catalog of the 4th CIIE exhibitors displayed at the exhibition halls showed that there were no Indian companies listed. However, during the 2nd CIIE, India was one of the 15 guest-of-honour countries.
Around 10 small Indian pharmaceuticals firms have displayed their products at one of the venues. The booths were crowded with visitors.
Last Year, Only Three Indian Companies Found At The CIIE
As per the reports, last year only three Indian companies were found at the CIIE. And out of these three, one was a manufacturer of gift products. With the rising tensions between the two countries, there are no exact reasons behind the decreasing profile at the major expo.
Wang Dehua, a senior South Asian affairs expoert in Shanghai spoke to the media on Thursday and said that the border disputes and the New Delhi’s intentions of following the footsteps of the United States should not suppress India’s reliance on a variety of Chinese good such as the auto parts and other small parts.
Within the first three quarters of 2021, China’s trade with India had soared by 49.3 percent. This is said to have paved the way for bilateral trade to reach $100 billion for the first time.
