No Need for Population Control, Says Owaisi on RSS Chief’s ‘Population Imbalance’ Remark

Asaduddin Owaisi, chief of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has responded sharply to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwant’s recent speech on introducing a comprehensive population policy that applies equally to all communities. He has called it the “Annual Day of Dog Whistles and Hate Speech.”

Owaisi stated in a tweet that such “concerns” about the population have frequently resulted in genocide and ethnic cleansing.

“If Hindus and Muslims have “same DNA,” where’s the “imbalance?” he tweeted, emphasizing that there is no need for population control.

He wrote: “The worry is an aging population & unemployed youth who cannot support elderly. Muslims have the sharpest decline in fertility rate.”

Mohan Bhagwat said on Wednesday that India should have a population policy that is comprehensive and applies equally to all communities.

He believes that community-based population imbalance is an important issue that should not be overlooked. Population imbalances cause changes in geographical boundaries,” he explained.

To strike a balance, the new population policy should apply equally to all communities, he said. He added that there must be a balance among the communities in this country.

Bhagwat expressed concern about India’s large population and stated that the emphasis on societal participation in all aspects of our national life is not to relieve the government of its governance responsibilities, but rather to emphasize societal partnership for national upliftment and pivot policy-making in that direction.

He said that the country has a huge population this is a reality. Nowadays there are two kinds of evaluation done on population. Populations require resources, if it keeps growing it becomes a big burden, perhaps an unbearable burden, he added.

Bhagwat stated that to ensure that the population control policy is accepted by society, it must be implemented with determination. The policy will not work if society does not accept it.
